Farm Livin' Is the Life for Us!

Howdy! Welcome to our blog! After 7 1/2 years of marriage and dealing with infertility for 5 1/2 years of that time, we finally became parents through the miracle of adoption! We keep busy owning and operating our own farm while Leesha also works as a CSR/Insurance Agent for a local Agency. We truly enjoy being parents to our precious little boy, Jace. A typical post might include some new crazy antic that Jace has learned, or something that is on my heart, or whatever comes to mind that day. Thanks for stopping by!

Random thoughts, questions, musings-or just things that annoy me.

These are some things that I, myself, have been thinking about or have heard others discuss.  If you have more to add, please feel free to comment.  Or better yet-if you have an explanation, it might help a lot of us out.  tee hee.

  • Why do people feel the need to pull out right in front of you from a side road/street, parking lot, etc when there is absolutely no one behind you.
  • Then, why do said people decide that they need to make a left turn therefore making you slow down...again?
  •  Why do people not wash their hands after they use the restroom.  This applies to both genders.  It's just gross.
  • Why do men (especially) feel the need to pick their nose in public?
  • Where has the written thank you note gone? or the verbal one? or the e-mailed one? or the texted one? or the facebooked one?
  • Why do people hang out in the left lane only doing 60 in a 70? Do they have a deathwish with an 18 wheeler?
  • Why do people not use coupons?  That is like throwing away perfectly good money!
  • Why do people wait until the very last minute to take care of stuff that should have been done yesterday? or a week ago? or a month ago?
  • Why do people ask for forgiveness but keep repeating the same action(s)?  Didn't they learn their lesson?
  • Why does Black Friday only come once a year?  Shouldn't there be a bi-annual Black Friday?
  • Does anyone else miss the brown M&M's?
  • Why did the show Young Riders not make it past 3 seasons?  I loved that show.
  • Why do people blame farmers for the high food costs?  We don't make any more money-in fact sometimes, we make less when food costs soar.
  • Why do certain stores only carry certain colors of Peeps?  I want some orange bunnies, but I can't find them anywhere.
  • Why hasn't there been a Friends TV reunion yet?  I want to know if Ross & Rachel got married.
  • Why did CSI have to kill of Warrick?  Boo.
  • Why is Army Wives going to kill off someone? or so it seems from the previews.  Double Boo.
This has been a for fun random thought post.  Maybe there will be a serious one in the future...

First post of the New Year: 2011

So, umm...I have dropped the ball and missed the first 4 days of the new year, and here it is the end of the 5th day of the year.

Not too much exciting going on that's for sure.

Saturday-after ringing in 2011 watching Back to the Future Part III (which I have seen an umpteen bazillion times and Craig has NEVER seen-what's up with that?), we slept in until 9.  Then we got up and got to working around the house.  I managed to clean up one half of my 1/3 of the basement.  Craig worked on his side and rigged up some lights controlled by a remote.  He's pretty proud of himself.  The remote is held up on the pole with baling wire.  Gotta love being married to the farmer.  We use more baling wire than duct tape!  I managed to find some goodies while cleaning up and more than a few dead bugs.  Thank goodness for the shop vac!

Now, we are on to doing our taxes for last year.  The joys of self-employment?  You have to have your taxes done by February 28th.  No rest for the weary.  So, I'm inputting all of Craig's receipts for the whole year.  It's lots of fun!

Here is my plug for an awesome way to do your taxes.  TurboTax.  I always used to have help getting my taxes done from one of my college professors.  Even after I graduated, he allowed me to come back and get them done for free.  After I got married, it was a whole different story.

There are so many deductions, expenses, and other things that I think a person would go crazy if they didn't have some way of keeping track of them.

Needless to say, for the first time last year, I did our taxes all by my little self!  I was so excited to get them done.  Hopefully, I can get them done by the end of this month and not wait until the last week of February like last year.  tee hee.

We are considering going to a gun show this weekend.  It depends if we decide staying home and working around the house would be more fun.  I think it would be kind of fun.  After all, since I hold a Bass Pro Rewards membership-I was sent an offer to be a card carrying member of the N.R.A.  Craig didn't get it, but I did.  Figure that one out!

I hope you have had a great first couple of days to the new year.  I'm just hoping it gets better!

Reminscent Wednesdays-Brady Bunch Style

Welcome to another awesome edition of Reminiscent Wednesdays!!!

It's hard some days to decide what I am going to remember and blog about. There are so many fun things that have happened to me so it's hard to narrow down which one I would like to discuss.

So, today, I thought I would write about my Freshman year of College. Each year, our Chorale would do a fund raiser talent night. We each had to come up with acts we would like to be a part of and put them together and then perform them. Some were serious and some were not so serious and downright silly. I can't remember who actually came up with the idea, but someone said we should do a Brady Bunch skit. Seriously?

So, how does one do a Brady Bunch skit, let-alone look like them? First of all, we had to come up with the cast. Well, the people who were willing to do it weren't so blonde on the girls side. Yours truly, included. But, we decided we would play on that aspect. Once the remake family was in place we knew that we had to go shopping at the thrift stores for our awesome 70's clothing.  Talk about a riot.  We were laughing and crying as we shopped for polyester & plaid and loud & obnoxious clothing.  We found our outfits.  We even found a blue dress that looked like Alice's from the show for "our" Alice.

Now-to plan the skit.  Of course, we had to have the opening number.  So, we bought blue posterboard and stood in our 3x3 square and it was funny.  When the part in the theme song said..."All of them had hair of gold, like their mother"...the guys popped out from behind their posterboard and yelled...NOT!  Because our Carol Brady had dark hair, too.

I choreographed our lipsynched song of Sunshine Day.  It was funny trying to teach people who really didn't know how to bust a move...to in fact, bust a move.  I grew up going to a Public High School and went to dances and was a member of the Show Choir and was a cheerleader, so I knew how to move.  It's funny teaching people who were homeschooled and grew up in Christian schools how to count to the beat and move their feet.

Anyway-it was a huge success.  Everyone laughed and talked about it for a long time.  Alice even passed out treats while we performed.   I'm attaching a picture of the Sunshine Day portion of the show.  I'm in the middle-it was my solo turn.  I was Cindy.  ha ha.

So, here is the pic:

Thank you Holly, Mike, Mike, Diane, Betsy, Jay, Hattie, and MeLinda---it's one of those memories I will NEVER forget.  (I don't think Dr. Urey would anytime either!)

Monday, Monday.

What happened to the weekend?  I lost it somewhere.  If you find it, please return ASAP!

It was a fun weekend and one that I needed for emotional strengthening.  Craig & I made a trip up to the city-okay-Kansas City for all you who have no clue what I'm talking about-last Friday.  We had a fun day shopping because we were looking for a new laptop since our other one went kaput with the screen.  We found out that HP has a class action lawsuit against them for the failure we are experiencing.  Isn't that fun?

Anyway-we got our new laptop and then Saturday-lo and behold-the old one starts working again.  So, now it is fun for us to both be on the computer at the same time. Saturday was a great day of just spending time with Craig and relaxing.

Sunday-after church-I met up with some of my HP friends from the Kansas City area.  We had a fun time of shopping out at the Legends Shopping Center and then we sat and vegetated awhile at a bakery enjoying cookies, brownies, danishes, and creme horns.  I have mentioned before, but I am SOOOOOO thankful for HP and the gals I have met either IRL or just online from there.  These ladies are so supportive and so understanding of the pain that I face daily-because they are experiencing the same thing.

My heart is still very heavy and only getting worse as each day, week, month, and year passes.  I know I have said this before-but it becomes harder to press on when people repeatedly treat you like you are diseased.  They leave you out, they talk about you behind your back, they don't listen to your hurts and they have no idea what to say or what to do when you tell them what is going on.  Nothing sucks more than people just telling you that you don't have enough faith or them telling you that you should just be happy.  I just keep praying that things will change-not just to have a child-but that people's eyes would be open on how to be sensitive to others in this situation.  As I have said before-if a person has cancer-you don't just ignore them because you don't have cancer.  You reach out to them and support them and love them.  It would be one thing to go through Infertility with true genuine IRL support, but when you don't have it, the problem is magnified twenty-fold.

It's hard to walk a mile in these shoes-but I'm glad for the new friends that have been brought into my life and for the deepening of my relationship with my awesome husband.

Friday Five

1. Made it through another work week.  Enough said.  I love my job, don't get me wrong.  I've just been hard to motivate this week.  We'll call it sleepiness and the definite change in the seasons.

2. Knitted 1.5 scarves.  It's a great stress reliever.  Keeps my hands busy instead of chewing off my finger nails.  I love knitting.  I should finish the other .5 one tonight.

3.  Made 2 batches of Rice Krispie Treats.  Okay...so they were "mini" batches because Craig doesn't care for them.  I think he's just sick in the head for not liking them.  He did admit that the ones I made were pretty good because I make them extra marshmallow-y.

4.  Got another birthday e-mail certificate!  This time to Carrabba's.  It's for $10 whole dollars off an entree.  Craig said we could go there next week.  YEAH!  I love their bread that they bring out for you to munch on before hand.  In fact, we ask for some to go almost every time and they always deliver.

5.  Got our renewal for the Kansas Speedway to get our tickets for next year.  THAT makes me happy!  Next year there will be TWO Sprint Cup Races at the track.  One is the first weekend in June and the other one will be my birthday weekend.  YEAH FOR US!

How to get lots of free meals for your birthday

I love coupons. Better yet-I love coupons that get me stuff for free. Several people have asked me about how I get all of the freebies that I do for birthdays/anniversaries and coupons throughout the year. So, for your ease, I have compiled a list of my favorite freebies with links to the websites for each location. If there are other places that you enjoy, I would suggest you find their website and see if they offer an e-club. Another good way to learn of valuable offers is to "like" the particular restaurant on Facebook.
Here are my favorites:

Red Robin-You get a whole free burger meal on your birthday! That's a potential $10 per person saved on their birthday. You have the week before & the week after your big day to use the coupon. Throughout the year, they send other promotional coupons, including free appetizers.

Ruby Tuesday's-I got a free burger for my birthday, and it was an $11 meal! Ruby Tuesday's has changed a lot since we had last been (over 2 years). The burger was good, and it was free. They have also sent coupons for B1G1 meals through the year.

Culver's-You get free ice cream on your birthday. I have gotten a free concrete, free sundae. Throughout the year they send you coupons: including free ice cream with a meal.

Minsky's Pizza (Kansas City ONLY) You get a free pizza on your birthday. Please note that you can't redeem the free pizza at the Blue Springs or Independence or Springfield, MO locations. Those 3 are separate and they have a rewards/loyalty program that you sign up for AT the restaurant. They have their own coupons for free pizza. This year-I have 2 free pizzas coming! They also send you e-mails at least once a month including 25% off your entire purchase. Try their Take & Bake's---excellent!

Texas Roadhouse-You get a free appetizer on your birthday. They also send out valuable coupons throughout the year.

Logan's Roadhouse-Free dessert in a little pail. You also get coupons/offers throughout the year.

Sheridan's Frozen Custard-Kansas City area. You get a free Concrete on your birthday. They send out very few coupons during the year; mostly e-mails letting you know of special flavors of the month, etc.
Ted's Montana Grill-You get a free dessert on your birthday & anniversary. The good thing-it does NOT give an expiration date.

There are many others out there. I even signed up for some new ones right around my birthday, so I didn't get anything this year. It includes: Carrabba's, Zio's, Steak & Shake, O'Charley's. The possibilities are endless.

I hope this helps you out.  I'll try to do some coupon posts on my blog.  I love saving money and don't mind sharing the wealth.

Branson...how do I love thee? Let me count the ways

I thought that I would do a kind of fun reminscing post of our trip to Branson.  Many people have travelled there but we have found some awesome new places to explore and eat at!

  1. College of the Ozarks-The Keeter Center.  For those not familiar with C of O this is a Christian College where the students do not pay for their tuition (but pay for room & board) in exchange for working on the campus.  The Keeter Center has a DELICIOUS restaurant in it.  We have been there 3 times now.  They have a fabulous Sunday Brunch...albeit $21.95 per adult, but very much worth it! If you like to save a little bit of $$$ there are some coupons out there to save 15%.  The lunch is reasonably priced-no more than any sit-down restaurant we go to regularly.
  2. Texas Land & Cattle Steakhouse-as someone said-what is NOT to like about a place that has Texas & Steakhouse in it?  We went there for lunch one day-it is at the Branson Landing.  Craig had this absolutely fabulous smoked Sirloin dinner.  It was so tender you could just use a fork and not a knife! We definitely got our money's worth there, too.
  3. Silver Dollar City-Their slogan is "You have a great past just ahead of you!" We went to the Harvest Festival and saw many crafters/artisans displaying their wares.  I bought some homespun wool to knit some scarves out of.  It is unbelievably soft! Of course there is also the Marvel Cave which is fun to go in.  We didn't go to it this time, but we will at Thanksgiving.  I also loved their GAC Country Nights show in the Echo Hollow Ampitheatre.  2 Thumbs up!
  4. SHOPPING!  I don't have to say much more than that.  Tanger Outlet & the Red Roof Outlets are our favorites.  We are starting to like the Branson Landing more & more. Got some great bargains including tank tops at Old Navy Outlet for $1.38 each! Can't wait to be down there for Black Friday.
  5. Dixie Stampede-The place where you have dinner & a show.  The dinner is so that you eat without any utensils.  The horses are magnificent.
  6. The Lakes-We didn't get to spend much time around them but there are nature trails, and of course you can rent a boat if you so desire.
  7. Westgate Resorts-where we own our timeshare.  We didn't stay there this time, but believe me...we will only stay there from now on!  I love the pillow top beds and the roominess of the units.
  8. Andy's Frozen Custard!  Yummy stuff!
  9. Okay...so I know that this REALLY isn't in Branson, but it's just north about 25 miles...LAMBERT'S-Home of the Throwed Rolls.  Yummy!  We always walked out of there with full bellies and left overs for at least 1-2 more meals at home.
  10. This is in Springfield, but again, only about 35 miles away. Bass Pro Shops Headquarters!  There is a nice outlet/catalog return store next to the big granddaddy of them all.  I got 2 shirts, a sweatshirt and the brand new WII hunting game for $32!
There are some great shows.  We have seen Pierce Arrow, the Hughes Brothers and Six.  Six was probably my favorite, but Pierce Arrow has the funniest comedian.  We will be seeing some shows over Thanksgiving, so I hope to have some good reviews.

So, that about sums it up.  We had a little excitement on our trip.  There was an EF0 tornado about 20-25 miles north of us on Wednesday night.  We just had a great time getting away from it all.  When we got home, our doggies came running up to us as they were so excited to see us.  We missed them greatly!

If any of you ever need pointers about Branson, just holler.  It's a fun place to go visit!

Finally Friday!

No, I'm not going to break out and sing the song made famous by George Jones.  I will leave that to the Fox 4 Morning News Crew here in Kansas City!

But, goodness...thank God it IS Friday!  Tomorrow, Craig & I leave for vacation to Branson!  Yee haw!  We are going to be staying at a different resort this time, instead of the one where we own at.  We plan on doing some walking, hiking, exploring or whatever around Table Rock Lake.  I don't think we will boat or anything like that, but there is plenty of other stuff to do down there.  I'm sure we will also go to Silver Dollar City a couple of days-since we have season passes.  I don't know what shows we will see, but we are probably going to go to the Dixie Stampede.  I've been there for the Christmas show, but never the regular show. Craig has never ever been.  Have any of you?  You get a meal with the show and all of your food is edible without using ANY utensils.  In fact...you don't get any to start off with.  I'm looking forward to it.

Last night, I gave into my obsession of collecting Longaberger baskets and went to an auction.  I restrained myself quite well.  But, I did get 5 new baskets...and some pottery that Longaberger makes.  They are all really cute!  They also had some Party-lite candle holders and I broke down and bought 2 of those for $5 each!  I love a good bargain and not having to pay full price.

Tomorrow is 9/11.  It is really hard to believe that it was 9 years ago that the attacks on American took place. I remember what I was doing...I was already at work and someone came running to say that a plane had hit the WTC.  Then we heard that the second plane had hit.  One of the managers got the TV out and we watched TV for the rest of the day.  I don't think the phone rang in the entire office except for 2 times. I only know that I got one phone call from a guy complaining about his claim not being settled that I had just gotten the day before.  I remember coming home and sitting in line for gas at the gas station-not because of fear but because I was completely empty.  It's so sad that the day ever had to happen.  It kind of saddens me that many of the people here in the U.S. these days don't want to be patriotic and they don't want to support our troops.  Since we have numerous family members & friends who have or are serving, it just infuriates me.  Our nation has seriously become a sad state of existence.  It really scares me to think about where we are headed...but that is a debate for another day, so I will get off of my soapbox.

I hope you all have a great weekend.  Maybe I'll be blogging next week...maybe not.  I'm devoting most of my time to my husband; and he is to me.  I'm just glad we have each other.

August is over?!?

Seriously, where did this month go?  I can't believe it's been almost 3 weeks since I updated my blog.  I must confess, I've been VERY busy.

Craig & I went on vacation for a week to the Smoky Mountains and also went to Bristol, TN for the Nascar races.  It was so great to get away for the week and not have to worry/deal with anyone else.  I think that was the best part.  We also got to catch up with one of my friends from high school and meet his wife and son. We hadn't seen each other since we walked together at graduation...SEVENTEEN years ago!

We are still going through the "waiting" process in our Infertility.  We are at a crossroads where we have a lot of decisions to make and which path to take.  I had another rough night last night.  It's so hard to remain focused on the positive when the negative keeps pushing it's way in front.  You're like...NO...get away from me.  But, that usually doesn't work.  You have to find that "happy" medium where you can go on and try to focus on what is actually happening in your life compared to what you hoped/thought/wished could have been.  I think that's the biggest struggle.  You live in a world of what if's/why's/when's, etc.

I seriously saw myself having a child well before I turned 35.  Well, I definitely know that won't be coming true, since my birthday is coming in a little over a month.  It's just hard to believe.  I just really never dreamed this would be my lot in life.  Never, ever ever.  I never thought that I would have to deal with infertility.  Heck...I didn't even really have a grasp on what it meant.  Now...I feel like I know so much but it still doesn't cure that sting of pain that comes every month.

So, we push on/press on/pray on that one day, maybe God would just see fit to end this pain.  We don't know the end, but He does.  I don't know if that means we will adopt, we will be childless forever, or we will be blessed with our own offspring.  It's really hard leaving it in His hands, because I want it now.  Actually, I wanted it 3 years ago, but here we are and still nothing.  Onward we go, and the faith will waiver and the despair will enter in-I'm just hoping it's for a little while and not for much longer.  I want that baby in my hands, in my home, in Craig's arms.  God knows our hearts, our desires and our pain.

An okay day before the crazy busy weekend!

Wow...can I just say thanks to the people who have sent me messages on Facebook? I didn't know one status update would make such an impact.  My heart hasn't been encouraged that much in a long time.  Thank you so much for taking the time to write to me and encourage me.  I told Craig that my heart only hurt half as much today.  So many of you have walked down this road before or are walking down it right now, too.  You understand the heartache and the frustration.  Thank you, thank you, thank you for your kind words!  I just felt like I had to defend myself for what is going on because there are people out there who don't/didn't know and were making way too many assumptions.  It's so much more than they probably thought...so I thought it best to handle it the way I did.

It is going to be a crazy next few days for us.  Craig is busy baling hay.  He's got a lot cut down, plus he's baling for our neighbor.  We are thankful that the rain has held off for these few days to allow him to get it done.  For me, I will be travelling down to Belton (for those not familiar with this area...that is 1 hour-1 way) because of Florina's wedding!  I am a bridesmaid, so I get in on all the fun stuff.  Tomorrow we are doing flowers, then we get to go have our mani-pedi's.  WOO HOO for that!  I will actually have fingernails once again.  Those that know me, know that I am a chronic nail biter, so I love having fingernails so I won't chew on them.  Friday, we will be decorating at the church and then the rehearsal...and then Saturday is the big day!  The wedding will be at the church we used to attend so it will be fun to see some familiar faces.  I'm sure come Sunday morning, I will be tuckered out.

So, I probably won't be on here for a few days.  I hope all of you are doing well.  Again, I want to thank each and every one of you who has been an encouragement to my heart. May God bless each of you...and you know who you are!

Psalm 27

I guess I have a little theme going here...passages of Scripture from the Psalms.  Psalms=balm (to my heart).

You know, as you read the Psalms, a lot of them were written by King David.  Talk about someone who went through a lot.  His best buddy's dad was out to kill him!  I couldn't imagine that.  That would be horrid.  But through the tests and trials, David found it in his heart to praise God over and over again.  So, that's what I am trying to do.

Psalm 27 pretty much sums up what I'm feeling.  Read it if you get a chance.  Pastor Jeremy read this Scripture Sunday morning and it just hit home.  I had read it before (a lot) but when the words were spoken aloud...wow.  I was overcome with emotion (in fact, I had to excuse myself from the sanctuary).

Here we are, another failed month.  I weep with the sadness of knowing that we failed to get pregnant again. I hate being in this pit of despair.  I hate questioning (I know I've said that before, but I REALLY do hate questioning) why God is allowing this.  I am trying.  The only reason I am trying is because I know God still loves us.  He's never stopped loving us.  Wow...what did I do to deserve that type of love?  If I stop and listen, I can hear that loving voice saying that I am loved.  So, maybe I should just shut up some more and focus on that.  Easier said than done, that's for sure.  But, nonetheless, I will try.

On another note: it's going to be a CRAZY busy week!  Craig is finally able to get some hay done.  He's mowing today, baling tomorrow & the next day.  He also has to replant some soybeans that got washed out with our torrential rains the last couple of weeks.  Saturday is a friend's wedding: Florina.  We all lived together before Craig & I were married.  I am one of the bridesmaids.  Thursday & Friday will be busy with decorating and all the pre-wedding stuff!  Pray for Dan & Florina as they begin their life together.  Exciting times!
